A 1972 Charles O. Finley Oakland A's World Series Championship Salesman's Sample Ring. One of the most talented and bizarre teams ever to take to the baseball diamond, the Oakland Athletics of the 1970's won five consecutive N.L. West titles and three consecutive World Series with stars like Reggie Jackson and Catfish Hunter.
At the helm of the franchise was one outrageous, innovative and controversial owner named Charlie O. Finley. He promoted orange baseballs and bases and was instrumental in bringing about the designated hitter and World Series night games. He also possessed a talent for alienating everyone he dealt with. When he wanted to make his right fielder Hank Bauer his new manager he had the P.A. announcer say: "Hank Bauer your playing days are over. You have been named manager of the Kansas City A's."
The salesman sample ring on offer here displays "1972/73 World Champions" surrounding one large Kelly-green stone. The sides read "World Series, A's 4 Reds 3, S+S=S [sweat plus sacrifice equals success]" and "Oakland A's, Finley." Engraved to the inner band "Jostens 10K." "B3963"
